Welcome to the Cluster Transport, Mobility and Logistics Berlin-Brandenburg

The Capital Region Berlin-Brandenburg represents Germany’s number 1 innovation region. The density of research facilities is unique. Seven universities, 21 applied science and other higher education institutes and more than 200 non-university research facilities offer diverse and manifold innovation potential.

The close links with scientific institutions within the cluster structures enhances the businesses’ innovative strength and thus their international competiveness. Companies of different sizes increasingly take advantage of the universities’ expertise on which they build their future economic growth.

Quality of life and economic growth are strongly affected by transport, mobility and logistics. The enhancement of value chains in these sectors, from research via production up to commercial application, contributes to the increase of industrial capabilities and employment. With the establishment of a joint cluster for transport, mobility and logistics, the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg agreed to aim for further growth-oriented development while conserving natural resources. The cluster focuses on networks that have already been developed, intensifies the region’s expertise with continuous development of the competence profile and makes important contributions to future transport systems.

The five fields of activity cover the main transport modes:

  • Automotive – nearly every vehicle on German roads includes a piece of Berlin-Brandenburg engineering
  • Logistics – the region is one of Germany’s top-3 locations
  • Aeronautics and aerospace – Berlin-Brandenburg is a leading region in Europe in the development of high technology aircraft engines (turbines)
  • Railway technologies – the region is home to global industrial players and leading transport operators
  • Intelligent transport systems – the poles of dense urbanity in Berlin and broad rural areas in Brandenburg create an unique climate for innovation

This thematic scope is one of the major cluster strengths. It promotes cooperation between industry and the sciences as well as the use of innovative ideas and products from the different disciplines. Important markets lie outside national borders. The cluster therefore focuses its support on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and uses relevant instruments and projects for market development and involvement in international RTD partnerships.

The Cluster strategy aims to

  • Develop systemic network relations and strategic partnerships
  • Setup sustainable international business relations – especially for small and medium enterprises
  • Support further market penetration and involvement in international RTD partnerships
  • Increase cross-industry technology transfer
  • Identify synergy benefits and further develop regional value chains
  • Encourage cross-cutting themes as an enabler of innovations
  • Support preparation and realisation of pre-competitive R&D projects on a regional, national and international level
  • Initiate and participate in the recruitment of skilled workers

Through the cluster management, companies and institutes from Berlin-Brandenburg as well as national and international partners enjoy an exclusive access to the great variety of Berlin-Brandenburg’s economic and scientific landscape.

Are you looking for a business or science partner in order to realise a specific project or to expand your network? The Cluster‘s management team will be happy to provide you with more detailed information and support you!
